Dairy

Getting your protein from dairy instead of beef results in 75% less greenhouse gases.

That’s a big step in the right direction… but getting your protein from dairy actually still results in more greenhouse gases than getting it from chicken and pork, and certainly more than from plants!

The dairy market is strange: consider how much cheaper a bottle of milk is than a bottle of water. It’s a consequence of government subsidies and supermarket competition.

Wouldn’t it be better if those government subsidies went towards supporting farmers in other ways?

The bizarrely low price tag of milk hides enormous environmental, land and water costs.

Globally, dairy cows graze an area the size of Brazil. Much of that could be forest instead!

Dairy is famously delicious, and a major part of Western diets, but like beef, it’s another thing we need to cut down on significantly.
